How to follow your parents' health from afar, with their agreement
Two ways to help your parents in Saleem: a record you manage for someone who does not use a phone, or an invitation your parent accepts and controls. They always decide.
Many of us live far from our parents or do not see them every day. We want to feel reassured and understand how their tracking is going while respecting their privacy and choices. In Saleem, family help begins with consent: the person whose record it is decides.
Start with a conversation, not an app
Before setting anything up, sit down with your father or mother and agree on three things:
- What do they want to log: sugar, blood pressure, medicines, lab tests?
- Who logs: they do, or you do it for them?
- What do you see: view only, or view and add?
Way one: a profile you manage
For someone who does not use a phone at all. In "Family", choose "A profile I manage" and add their name. They get a record completely separate from yours, where you log their readings, medicines and lab results and print a doctor report for them.
If they later want to sign in themselves, you can hand the profile over: they pick their own phone number or username and password, and all their history stays as it is.
Way two: an invitation your parent accepts
If your parent uses Saleem with their own account, choose "Invite them to sign in with their own account" in "Family". You get a code valid for seven days, which you send by WhatsApp or as a link.
When they open the invitation, they choose what you may do in their record:
- View only: you see readings and the report and change nothing.
- View and add: you can log for them too, and the record shows who entered each reading.
They always have the last word
In "Who can see my record" your parent sees everyone who can open their record, and can lower or revoke access at any moment, with a history of every change. If they revoke your access, the report links you made for their record are revoked with it.
So records never get mixed up
When a relative's record is open, their name shows at the top of the screen, so you always know whose record you are in. The app returns to your own record after ten idle minutes.
Tips from experience
- Call to ask how they are, not only about the numbers.
- Agree on a fixed time to measure, the morning for example, instead of reminding them every hour.
- If a reading worries you, suggest they contact their doctor, and never change their medicines yourself.
